About the Maharaj Trio
The Maharaj Trio is part of a well established musical family stretching back generations. Comprising father Pandit Vikash Maharaj, and his sons Abhishek (Sitar) and Prabhash (Tabla). The trio have performed worldwide and with some of the most respected musicians from both the Indian Music tradition to World Music and Jazz fusion, including Peter Gabriel, John McGlaughlin and Ravi Shankar.
Pandit Vikash Maharaj has the distinction of being an expert Sarod player, an instrument associated with Indian classical music but he also has a formidable reputation as a performer of instruments from other middle eastern and subcontinental countries.
The Trio bring to DISPLACED 2015 an experience of fusing Raga with Western popular music in what is generally termed “World Music”. This music transcends national borders and cultures captivating audiences worldwide. Politically such music represents disparate cultures that have had to move and settle in other countries across the globe.
